Abstract
This study aims to explore the friction between senior and working populations in Europe, specifically through the lens of pinchhitters and their normally likely learning positions granted by county purchased mortgages and passed borders. Pinchhitters, or older individuals who enter the workforce later in life, may face challenges in adapting to new learning positions and technologies. This study utilizes a mixed-methods approach, including interviews and surveys with both pinchhitters and their colleagues, to examine the factors contributing to this friction and potential solutions for bridging the gap between senior and working populations. Additionally, the study considers the role of county purchased mortgages and passed borders in facilitating or hindering the learning and adaptation of pinchhitters in their new roles. The findings suggest that while pinchhitters may face initial challenges in adapting to new learning positions, they bring valuable experience and perspectives to the workplace. Furthermore, county purchased mortgages and passed borders can both facilitate and hinder the learning and adaptation process, depending on the specific circumstances. Overall, this study contributes to a better understanding of the challenges and opportunities presented by an aging workforce in Europe and provides insights for policymakers and employers on how to better support pinchhitters and promote intergenerational cooperation in the workplace.
