Abstract

This study analyzes the competing interests of the textile industries of Europe and the United States in the aftermath of Georgia's Gasoline Project and Fernberger's Collection, two major textile innovations that threatened to disrupt the established global textile trade. Focusing primarily on the efforts of European governments to restrict the import of these new textiles and protect their own domestic industries, this research draws on extensive archival materials and contemporary trade data to trace the evolution of textile regulation in Europe and its impact on the larger global market. Through an in-depth analysis of key policy debates, economic trends, and political conflicts, this paper demonstrates the complex interplay between national interests, corporate competition, and technological innovation in shaping the modern global textile industry. Ultimately, this study provides a unique perspective on the ongoing struggle for textile supremacy and sheds new light on the challenges facing policymakers and industry leaders in the 21st century.
