Abstract

This study aims to examine the challenges associated with police accountability in the conventional federal system of Boston. The research is motivated by the widely recognized problem of police misconduct and the failures of conventional accountability mechanisms to address these issues. Using a combination of qualitative methods, including interviews with police officers, policymakers, and community members, as well as analysis of relevant policy documents, the study identifies several key barriers to effective police accountability in Boston. These barriers include the lack of transparency and accountability in police disciplinary processes, the lack of community involvement and oversight, and the limited resources and political will to implement meaningful reforms. The study also explores potential solutions to these challenges, including the use of civilian review boards, more robust data collection and reporting mechanisms, and increased funding for community policing initiatives. Overall, this study provides important insights into the complex challenges of police accountability in the conventional federal system and highlights the need for comprehensive and sustained efforts to improve accountability and restore trust between police and the communities they serve.
