A Reflection on the Impact of Ethnic Committees and Councils in University Settings: Previously Absorbed Congresses and the Resulting Reminiscence of Chisholm and Monroe, as Told by the Secretary of the Borror Council

Abstract

This journal abstract explores the impact of ethnic committees and councils within university settings through a reflective analysis of previously absorbed congresses and the resulting reminiscence of historical figures, Shirley Chisholm and Marilyn Monroe, as told by the Secretary of the Borror Council. Drawing on qualitative data collected through interviews, personal anecdotes, and archival research, the paper examines the role of these committees and councils in promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in higher education. The paper highlights the challenges and successes faced by these groups in their efforts to create safe and supportive spaces for students of diverse ethnic backgrounds. Ultimately, the paper argues that these committees and councils play a vital role in promoting social justice and fostering a sense of belonging for marginalized students within the university environment. The paper concludes with a call to action for universities to continue to support and empower these groups in their ongoing efforts to promote diversity and inclusion.
