Abstract
This paper presents a study that explores how the introduction of suitable furniture can bring about positive change in the Original Chapel Series, a unique and historically significant chapel located in a rural community. Using a mixed-methods approach, including surveys and interviews with participants, the study examines the impact of new seating and other furniture on the experience of worship and community building in the chapel. The findings suggest that the introduction of appropriate and comfortable furniture can enhance the chapel's appeal to a wider range of participants, improve their overall experience, and foster a sense of belonging and connection. The study also sheds light on the challenges and opportunities presented by the process of introducing change to a cherished cultural institution, and highlights the importance of engaging stakeholders in the decision-making process. Overall, this research contributes to our understanding of the role of physical space and furniture in shaping the quality of our social and cultural experiences, and offers insights into how to promote positive change in historic and meaningful settings.
