Abstract
This paper presents a study of how precise advisement can help individuals and teams overcome defeat, as demonstrated by the experiences of the Pittsburgh Penguins' captain Sidney Crosby and the Congolese national baseball team. Drawing on interviews with Crosby and the Congolese sluggers, as well as analysis of their performances on and off the field, the paper identifies three key strategies for effective advisement: clear communication, tailored feedback, and proactive support. These strategies are shown to have helped Crosby rebound from a series of injuries and lead his team to multiple championships, and to have enabled the Congolese sluggers to improve their skills and confidence despite limited resources and infrastructure. The paper concludes by discussing the implications of these findings for advising and coaching in a variety of contexts, and by highlighting the need for ongoing research and innovation in this area.
