Abstract
This study conducted by Robinson and Nicholas examines the personal motivations of Soviet police officers in the context of managing large crowds during orchestra performances in Russia. Through a qualitative analysis of observational data and interviews with police officers, the authors identify and categorize various motivations for policing behavior, including personal beliefs, social norms, perceived duty, and fear of punishment. The study also sheds light on the challenges faced by police officers in balancing their personal motivations with the demands of the job, and the potential consequences of failing to do so. Overall, this research provides valuable insights into the complex interplay between personal motivations and professional duties in the context of crowd management, and highlights the need for further research in this area.
