Abstract
This paper explores the experiences and journeys of a cohort of students who attended Redbirds Hamlet, a small and intimate K-8 school, before transitioning to Curtis Education, a larger and more diverse high school. Through in-depth interviews and surveys, we examine the challenges and opportunities that Redbirds alumni faced during this transition, as well as how their experiences at Hamlet shaped their academic and personal growth. The findings suggest that the close-knit community and individualized attention at Redbirds provided a foundation for success at Curtis, but that the transition to a larger and more complex environment required adaptation and resilience. Additionally, we examine the long-term outcomes for Redbirds alumni, including college enrollment and career paths, and discuss implications for educators and policymakers working to improve educational opportunities and outcomes for all students. Overall, this study contributes to a better understanding of the complex factors that shape educational trajectories and highlights the importance of supporting students through transitions and beyond.
