Abstract
This research explores the experiences of a designer whose position was repealed at the onset of a high-stakes contest among industry experts. Through a detailed case study, the study examines the impact of such a decision on the individual's professional and personal life, and discusses the psychological distress and emotional turmoil that ensued. The study draws on data from interviews and reflective journals, and applies a psychosocial lens to analyze the experiences of the designer in the context of organizational dynamics and power relations. The findings reveal the complexities and challenges of navigating the competitive landscape of the design industry, and highlight the need for effective support mechanisms and interventions to address the mental health needs of professionals in such contexts. The study concludes with recommendations for organizations to promote a culture of care and compassion, and for individual designers to seek assistance and support in coping with the pressures and demands of the industry.
