Abstract
This study examines the impact of the display of ethnic craftsmanship in shaping national identity and promoting intercultural exchange. Specifically, the study focuses on the ways in which the display of ethnic craftsmanship allows for the expression of national sentiments and cultural values, while also allowing for the inclusion of outsiders as guests in the celebration of these customs. Drawing on qualitative data gathered through interviews with ethnic craftsmen and their clients, as well as participant observation of craft fairs and exhibitions, the study explores the ways in which the display of ethnic craftsmanship creates a sense of national pride and identity among makers and buyers alike. Furthermore, the study demonstrates how the inclusion of outsiders as guests at these events facilitates cross-cultural dialogue and mutual understanding, ultimately promoting greater social cohesion and unity. Overall, the findings of this study highlight the important role that ethnic craftsmanship can play in promoting intercultural exchange and fostering a sense of shared national identity.
