Empires in Dispute: Exploring Missile Defense Arguments Passed by University Students in Plainfield

Abstract

This study explores the arguments regarding missile defense that were passed by university students in Plainfield. The research aims to examine the reasoning behind the arguments, the level of understanding of the missile defense issue, and the sources used to support the arguments. The study employs a mixed-methods approach, using both qualitative and quantitative data collection methods. Findings suggest that the majority of students have a limited understanding of the missile defense issue and rely heavily on media sources to inform their arguments. Additionally, the study reveals that the students' arguments are influenced by political ideology, with conservative students tending to support missile defense and liberal students opposing it. The research contributes to the literature on political discourse and education by shedding light on how university students construct and defend their arguments on complex political issues and the role of political ideology in shaping their opinions. The study also highlights the importance of promoting critical thinking skills and media literacy in higher education to enhance students' ability to engage in informed and reasoned political discourse.
