Unofficial Politics: Organized Service and Condemned Purpose in Nixons College Operation

Unofficial Politics: Organized Service and Condemned Purpose in Nixons College Operation

Abstract

This paper examines the role of unofficial politics in President Nixon's college operation, specifically focusing on the organized service provided by his administration and the condemned purpose behind it. Through an analysis of primary sources, including memos, letters, and transcripts, this study explores how Nixon's college operation used government resources and personnel to target political opponents and further his own political agenda. The paper argues that while the organized service provided by the operation was beneficial for some colleges and universities, its condemned purpose ultimately undermined the democratic process and violated ethical norms. By shedding light on the complex and often murky world of unofficial politics, this paper contributes to a better understanding of how political power is wielded and contested in the United States.
