Abstract
This paper explores the often-overlooked work of janitors and officials in maintaining the health and safety of buildings and businesses in county parking lots. Through qualitative interviews and observations, the study uncovers the self-sacrifice and dedication of these unsung heroes in ensuring that the facilities are clean and well-maintained, especially during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The findings reveal that, despite their low status and often thankless work, janitors and officials take pride in their jobs and feel a sense of responsibility to protect the health of the public and their colleagues. They go above and beyond their duties, often working long hours and risking their own health to ensure that the facilities are safe and clean. The study highlights the need for greater recognition and support for these essential workers, as well as a better understanding of the importance of their work in maintaining public health and safety. The implications of this research are relevant not only for county parking facilities but also for other public spaces and buildings where janitors and officials play a critical role in protecting the health of the community.
